Ban GM food - I'm no techno-sceptic nor do I think that scientists in white coats are going to destroy the planet - stupid elected governments are doing that very well on their own - but GM food just sounds like another diaster along the lines of DDT. DDT when used in sensible amounts can be quite useful - it kills mosquitos and can help eradicate malaria, yet in the 50's and 60's so many millions of tonnes of the stuff was used that it became inneffective and poisoned lots of birds. GM food sounds nice in principal (feed the world, make it a better place, for you and for me and for the entire human race etc) but things like Monsanto's terminator genes and the lack of any evidence of it being any good have made it a menace. Plus there's the whole issue of gene flow between species - imagine a whole army of Maize Peter Mandlesons wondering around kent with green tentacles and spinning heads, Margaret Beckett venus fly traps with grotesque ensnaring teeth or John Prescott marrows that consume resources and then become so large they take up whole counties.
